NOJA Power Auto Recloser Operating Smart Grids Below Freezing
Europe is experiencing one of the coldest winters in 15 years according to the UK Met Office (Meteorological Office). Despite the harsh weather condition, NOJA Power OSM reclosers are operating reliably throughout the region.
Across Europe, temperatures have dropped well below freezing with one of the lowest temperatures ever recorded at -22.3C. The Met Office said the temperatures are set to stay below zero degrees with a risk of further snow.
During winter, NOJA Power reclosers are used to secure and protect power networks. Remote monitoring, control and intelligent self healing capabilities of these reclosers allow power networks to operate efficiently and reliably under extreme weather conditions.
Heavy snow and road blocks can mean decreased accessibility to remote power distribution equipment; NOJA Power’s smart reclosers restore power after faults occur automatically where possible. They can also automatically isolate a fault to protect the rest of the network.
NOJA Power’s automated intelligent reclosers are rated for use in environmental extremes from -40°C to +55°C ambient temperature. They are used in a wide range of locations and scenarios from thunder storms, lightning strikes in tropics to snow storm and blitzes in cold environments.
Installing several smart reclosers in series to sectionalise faulted sections of line during heavy snow storms helps utilities increase reliability.
NOJA Power OSM27 Smart Automatic Recloser Operating Under Harsh Weather Conditions
Remote control and monitoring using GSM modems or VHF/UHF radio systems gives access to the full function of the auto reclosers. The Recloser supports DNP3, Modbus and IEC communications protocols for flexible SCADA integration.
